Emotional Intelligence

"It’s not IQ that leads to success. EQ is more important: emotional intelligence, social skills, how you relate, can you get things done. That's what makes a difference, especially in management."

These words came from an address given by Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase to a group of MBA students. They illustrate the importance of emotional intelligence (EQ) in the view of this Fortune 100 executive.

The emotional intelligence assessment is a valuable tool that Mike Donahue uses in his executive coaching practice and as a stand-alone service for his clients. He’s certified by Multi-Health Systems, Inc. to administer the Bar-On EQ-i emotional intelligence (EQ) assessment. Mike uses EQ for three reasons:

  1. If you're stuck, not getting the results you want, or the people who work for and with you are not getting the results they need, EQ can provide insight into why and provide a road map for getting better results. This makes it a powerful coaching tool.
  2. Unlike most other assessment tools, EQ not only tells you how you’re wired, but opens the door to understanding why you're wired as you are.
  3. Using the Bar-On EQ assessment tools, Mike can do EQ assessments of individuals, assessments of groups or use the 360 EQ assessment. This makes EQ especially valuable for work with groups.

A great place to learn more about emotional intelligence is the Harvard Business Review web site: http://www.hbsp.harvard.edu/hbsp/ search using the key word “emotional intelligence.” If you'd like to learn more about how Mike uses EQ, take the next step and schedule a time to meet with Mike by clicking on the coffee cup at the bottom right of the page.
